Lemont Public Library
Event SpacePlanning for the management of your finances? This program brings together the legal and banking requirements to guide clients through the aspects of using a Power of Attorney for Property.
Registration for this event will open on June 11 at 9:00am.
Attendees will be walked step-by-step through considerations in the creation of a Power of Attorney by Lemont attorney Sarah Forzley Pocic, gaining a clear understanding of how the document is prepared, what decisions are involved, and how to ensure it reflects their intentions. From selecting an agent to defining powers and safeguards, participants will leave with a better understanding of how to put a strong plan in place.
The session will also provide perspective from Angel Martinez of Lemont Bank and Trust as to what happens when a Power of Attorney needs to be used. Participants will gain valuable insight into how banks review and process these documents, what to expect when an agent presents a Power of Attorney, and how to avoid common delays or issues.
The program will explore the key differences between using a Power of Attorney and adding a joint owner to a bank account. Through real-world insight from both an attorney and a banking professional, attendees will learn the benefits, risks, and practical implications of each option—helping them make informed decisions about how to structure their financial affairs.
